Safeguard System Operation, Improve Structures and Processes

The software products Oracle Primavera P6 PPM and P6 EPPM are designed to be user-friendly and to deliver comprehensible, consistent planning results. However, even users who have attended a training course and already have experience with the software may occasionally have application-related or technical questions that require quick and reliable answers. We provide ad hoc support to ensure that no valuable time is lost in finding answers or when making false assumptions. The support is mainly related to the following topics:

  • Methodologies: Network diagrams visually illustrate the course of a project very evidently and therefore appear to be quite easy to create. This, however, is deceptive in that it requires a considerable amount of experience and solid methodological knowledge to plan projects in such a way that the course is accurately mapped to dates under changing conditions of execution. We can contribute to a correct methodological understanding as well as to the proper use of the rich set of functional options in Oracle Primavera P6.
  • Structures: The amount of information that even small project plans contain can only be presented in an understandable way if the details are packed into structures and grouped, filtered, sorted as well as summarized accordingly. Oracle Primavera P6 offers several ways to do this and we can show you how to make use of them.
  • Data management: Along with the actual core data, project and capacity planning also includes continuously updated structural information from various sources inside and outside the company. We can show you how data management can be carried out in the easiest and most reliable way, or we can execute it on your behalf.
  • Data presentation: Planning results must be delivered to target groups with a wide variety of information needs. Depending on the implementation, Oracle Primavera P6 offers different possibilities for this. We provide support on how to make best use of them.
  • Efficiency: Users are expected to provide accurate information in a timely manner. We show you how this can be achieved efficiently.

We offer our support on site, by phone, email, remote access or in the form of written instructions.

The administrator role is required if P6 PPM is used in larger teams or P6EPPM is used company-wide in different user groups. Administrators are responsible for ensuring reliable, orderly and efficient use of the system by their own users and any external users. This results in a wide variety of tasks:

  • Access management: P6 has a central database that can be accessed simultaneously by several users.  Accordingly, the authorized users must be registered and assigned proper access within the defined organizational structure.
  • System configuration: P6 allows to standardize structures, layouts, filters, templates and reports as globally accessible objects. These objects can support users in working together in a consistent and efficient way.
  • Data processing: Various processing steps can be regularly executed as jobs and must be configured accordingly. The same applies if interfaces (e.g. for Excel) or options for automatic data exchange are used.
  • Data maintenance: Planning data is generated and modified very dynamically. Data quality often suffers as a result. Administrators are responsible to constantly monitor the completeness and consistency of the data and to correct it if necessary.
  • System operation: The usual precautions for secure system operation must be taken in the form of regular backups, monitoring of system performance, checking of error messages and field-specific auditing of updates.
  • System operation: Administrators generally have in-depth user knowledge and are as "power users" often the first point of contact for user questions.

We support administrators in all task areas with our know-how or as an interface to the manufacturer, and we also take on interim jobs.

Oracle Primavera P6 PPM is built in a 2-tier, P6 EPPM in a 3-tier architecture. On the one hand this creates many advantages regarding operation as well as scalability and integrability, but also requires a higher degree of support than common office applications, especially regarding:

  • System maintenance: Software updates/upgrades must be carried out - depending on requirements in "Testing/ Pre-Production/ Production" environments.
  • Data management: It must be ensured that backups (at application and database level) are created, the database administered and data migrations carried out as required.
  • System performance: It is important to ensure constant system performance even with increasing data volumes.
  • Interfaces: The efficiency and reliability of data exchange should be optimized via automatic interfaces wherever possible.

We support the IT with our product-specific knowledge and also take on demanding tasks in the area of any troubleshooting with the manufacturer.
